One late night, many years ago, a few old men sat on the curb on Penang Road, with a checkers board and a lot of warm beer.
"Did you bring the checker pieces?" asked one.
"No, I thought you did?" asked another.
The third man, the oldest and clearly the wisest, stared at the empty board. He took a swig from his bottle of Tiger and spun the bottle cap between his fingers. He stopped with the bottle still glued to his lips and his eyes lit up and rolled over to the bag of beers. "Start drinking boys."
