About

You are probably like us – searching for something more about Penang.  More than beaches and malls.  More than a surface introduction to Penang’s famous food.  More than the stale travel information from guidebooks.

Our search began with a walk in George Town in no particular direction.  And it happened immediately – we discovered Penang.  The culture, the people, the stories.  At every turn, something new to experience, to capture.

After a few more walks, we were suddenly bursting with energy to share what we had learned about this amazing island. To introduce you to Penang, but not to lead you.  To encourage you to visit and seek out your own interpretations.

With Capturing Penang, we hope you feel a sense of place here.

Hi Reese & Mark - we are currently planning out trip through Malaysia and have to say your blog offered us a lot of extra inspiration (discovered it through Rasa Malaysia). A quick shout out to say thanks for adding to the excitement we know we'll discover in Malaysia. Andreea & Mark (from Belgium)

Thanks Andreea & Mark! We have a lot of fun writing and taking pictures for Capturing Penang. It's great to know that visitors like you are using it to plan a more in-depth look at Penang. Not sure when you are headed to Penang, but July is a good month to come with George Town Festival from July 1-31. Have a wonderful trip!

Hi Reese and Mark, I'm visiting Penang in two weeks and am glad to have discovered this blog. Your recommendations of things to do and places to visit are definitely more interesting than those of the many tourist websites out there. I enjoyed reading your descriptions (e.g. of farlim night market, air itam wet market) and it really makes me feel exciting about my trip! Thanks for a wonderful blog!

Thank you Rachel! We always hope that Capturing Penang will show visitors some of the interesting things to look for while in Penang. Unfortunately, we see most people with a Lonely Planet attached to one hand, which only provides a surface introduction to the island. So much more to this place, which is why many people come back again to explore.

We hope you have a wonderful trip!

Best,

Reese & Mark
