Deepavali lights up Penang

Six more days until Deepavali, the "Festival of Lights", on November 5, 2010.  Indians all over Penang are preparing to usher in the New Year and to celebrate the victory of good over evil, light over darkness. The streets in Little India are again bursting in colors and jam-packed with action! We found ourselves returning three times this week to soak in this festive atmosphere.
Shopping spree - sparkling saris, Punjabi suits, whimsical decorations, mountains of Indian snacks!
Want to wish your friend a Happy Deepavali?  Why not let a Bollywood or Kollywood (Tamil Cinema) star do it for you? My pick goes to the one in the middle with the guy punching his way through the card.
Haven't been down to Little India yet for Deepavali?  Stop by Sunday night (October 31) at 7pm for the Deepavali Carnival at the intersection of Lebuh King & Lebuh Gereja.  Since it's Halloween tomorrow, why not come down wearing dark shades and a fake mustache? I'll try to convince Mark...

Planning ahead:  Deepavali Open House hosted by the Penang State Government. November 6, 11am-3pm, at Dewan Sri Pinang.
