Gong Xi Fa Cai! (Happy Chinese New Year!)

Fireworks at Jalan Perlis (Road) in George Town
The Penang fire department is going to have a busy February...

Chinese New Year doesn't start until February 3rd, but by the sound of things, we are well underway in Penang!  Our first tip for experiencing Chinese New Year on the island is to make your way to Kek Lok Si Temple on Wednesday night*.  The hillside temple will be lit up with 250,000 lights, and at midnight, it will give you one of the best views of the fireworks exploding all over Penang.

See you there!

*Just to warn you, it will be very crowded at Kek Lok Si Temple on Wednesday night, and it will be nearly impossible to find transport back. Therefore, if you decide to go, drive there yourself, or coordinate with a taxi driver.
