Those macaques are aggressive at BG. Tourists never know what they are getting themselves into when they buy a snack and walk in to a monkey ambush.

Surprisingly, and unfortunately, BG has always been the place you go to feed monkeys. At least since the 1920's, per the book - "Hail, Penang!". A hundred years of monkeys eating junk food...

Cheeky little monkeys. Big round white eyes and white nose! Quite unusual looking, esp staring back at you and Mark with great curiosity. Interesting personality than the brown macaque monkeys at BG, which will probably snatched at your camera or even your backpack! I was chased by one on my last visit to BG and saw that fella shacking and drinking a big bottle of coke! As I got closer to take a shot, he hissed at me and showed his vicious sharp fangs! And, when we left the BG, there were a couple of young American tourists, who just bought a sandwich ice cream form the tricycle ice cream vendor. One monkey jumped at the male tourist and snatched his ice cream sandwich right off his hand! LOL.

Hi Stephen,

The macaques' stronghold is definitely at the Botanic Gardens, where they sit around all day eating ice cream (not to blame the monkeys for humans not thinking).

I think as long as dusky leaf monkeys don't get a taste for 'Paddle Pops', an all out turf war will be avoided.

Haven't been to Kerachut since my schooldays and that was like light years ago! Nice pics of the genuinely original inhabitants.Heard they are giving the macaques a hard time in terms of territorial space.
